    The scammer used a “bait and switch” tactic to charge the extra fees.

    I can understand the frustration – kids sitting outside, car locked…

    But when he wouldn’t take CC or Check, and wanted to follow me to an ATM – that would have been a longer trip to the Police Station, not the ATM.

    I’m with binaryspiral. I would never let anyone follow me to the ATM. Of course, I think in many ways women are more wary of these types of situations than men. That’s nothing bad about men; it’s just drilled into women’s heads from birth or something.

    I would submit complaints to the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Reports, Angie’s List….anywhere I could be heard, just to make a point. I’d also call the particular business & tell them what their service representative did. You might be able to get some closure via that route (& by threatening a lawsuit for the terror your kids were in & the scariness of following to the ATM :^)
